Community Space Landscape Design Hobart

Community spaces connect people

We take community spaces for granted sometimes. A park, and art piece, a piece of street art or a community garden. But, if designed properly, a public or community space can do more that just look nice. It can connect the people of that community to their community. It can be a place to gather, a place to sit alone or simply show a sense of pride in the place we live. We can make your community space stand out with creative landscaping.

A note from Dan, business owner and landscape designer

“Placemaking”.

It’s what I do with home gardens all the time. Connect people to the place that they are in. But when you apply this to a community or public space, great things can happen.

Towns and cities all over the world are coming to realise that the little spaces matter.

How the community “feel” about where they live and work makes a huge difference to how that space is treated and to the greater prosperity of a town.

It’s not just about how a town or development looks, but how it feels to be in it.

A well designed area can help with changing anti-social behaviours, give a community a place to gather, individual a place to contemplate and bring a sense of price to an area, increasing it’s social and economic value and helping to bring huge beneficial gains to the community as a whole.

More about Dan’s landscaping experience with public spaces

I have worked on outdoor spaces for retirement homes, dementia units, schools and most recently park spaces for council. I have helped businesses with pop-up spaces for trade shows and helped deliver a short-term welcoming space for VIP’s visiting Tasmania at the Hobart Airport.

The common connection for the landscaping brief was to make people feel welcome and connected to the space. Small spaces in your community need not go to waste. A small seating area, art piece, or planted area can make a huge difference to how a place feels. More and more community gardens are springing up. Not just in towns and cities but in communities of all sizes. Yes, they can be a green space, but they are also a place to come together, to chat, discuss ideas, connect and make friends.

I hope to work with community groups to help set up community gardens and give them the benefit of good landscape design, giving them the best possible start at building a thriving community group. My expertise can help with council submissions, grant applications, and gathering support within your community. If you are a group planning such a garden, get in touch to find out how I can help with the process.
